Successful VINF Female workshop
-
The European Commission publishes on a regular basis “The Figures on Women in Higher Education and in Science & Technology jobs”. Despite the fact that women now account for almost 60% of University graduates, they remain a clear minority among researchers in Europe.

The EXCELL Network of Excellence, in association with the Virtual Institute of NanoFilms VINF, represents women from different European countries, working in the field of nanofilms. The aim of the workshop is to summarize the current situation of European women in science, to exchange experiences from various European countries and to analyse potential solutions for promoting gender equality.

The female workshop organised by VINF, in tight collaboration with the FIAS Institute was held in Frankfurt in June 3rd 2009. This event was successful by the number of its participants and by their commitment to participating actively to the presentations and discussions. The situation for women who wants to have a career is already better than in the past (protective laws are now well established in Europe). However some improvements are required, especially to facilitate the access of women to top level careers and to attract new women/girls in sciences.
