European post-graduate training on NanoFilms: Module IV and II (part2)

Module IV was dealing with the preparation and structural and optical spectroscopy characterization of nanofilms. They were co-organized by the National University of Science and Technology and the Institute of Spectroscopy of Russian Academy of Sciences from October 19 to October 23, 2009 in Russia.

The Module IV and II (part2) “Mechanical applications and optical characterization of Nanofilms” were divided in two parts. First, the theoretical course provided an opportunity for the Ph.D. students to deepen their understanding of physical and chemical processes on surfaces and in thin films as well as to get an overview of recent advances in the field. The second part was practical training (Nanoindentation, Scratch Testing, Surface Topography, Tribology, Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier-Raman Spectroscopy, IR Fourier Spectroscopy) on modern experimental instruments. The courses were held in the National University of Science and Technology “MISIS” from October 19 to October 20, 2009 (in Moscow) and in the Institute of Spectroscopy of Russian Academy of Sciences from October 22 to October 23, 2009 (in Troitsk, Moscow region, Russia). 24 participants attended the courses. Two students:   Badita Liliana - Laura, Institute of Solid Mechanics, RAS, Romania, and Claudia Isabel Fernandes Baptista, New University of Lisbon, Portugal received each 1100 € VINF scholarship to participate to the EMS. All “students” who participated received Certificate of Competence.
